This morning I was watching TV5 monde...I am trying to learn french and lately all I do is watch french tv,listen to french radio programms and try and read french magazines .....anyway I was watching TV5monde and just barely got a glimpse of a tv show about this amazing art exibition in Nantes...I it was soooo stunning...it felt like Jules Vernes met Leonardo Da vinci and all I could do is start googling like a madperson to fine out what it all was about!
ohhhh it is truly amazing....I really LOVE this....so now I am trying to talk hubby into taking me to Nantes of course!

OMG....I just stepped into the door....I just have to tell someone about this book!!!!
This morning,I went to visit my eldest daughter in Amsterdam to see her at work.She is doing an amazing job at the Amsterdam Film Week festival and I wanted to surprise her and tell her how proud I am:)))So after a latté and a sneak peak at her doing her job at the desk I wandered through Amsterdam,my beloved city,and as usual I always end up in the American Bookcentre..In the window were all these hauntingly beautiful bookcovers(because of Halloween...)and immideately one book caught my attention...I went in and purchased the book without knowing anything about it.I just knew I was going to love it to bits...on the train( I always get a little sad leaving Amsterdam...but it is only a 20 minute trainride..)I took the book out of the bag and it hasn't left my mind eversince.I haven't read a single word but the pictures are sooooooo creepy/haunting/beautiful....so now I am sitting (still wearing my coat...)book in my lap and I started searching online to see if I could find something about the writer!Turns out he has visited Amsterdam a while ago and loved it:)and also Belgium in search of abandoned mansions...oh...I just wish I had been a fly on one of his travelbags....the trip seems so AWESOME!All these haunted places...the chairs,the suit,the photo's I am sooooo enjoying his creepy storytelling but also love the way he talks about houses and how they all have their own story and soul....Well mr Ransom Riggs....you sure have my attention....And if you are intriqued as well please go to his amazing blog and watch his amazing film about his trip to Europe in search of houses.....I just know this is going to be an amazing read.....soooooo looking forward to it!!!!

In the past I have had many dollhouses.Sold all of them due to lack of space but always knew I wanted to start again at some point.Someone gave me three mirrors with beautiful frames.I asked my husband to make a little cabinet and put the frame on it to turn it into a little doll room.I am now looking for decoration options.I found a piece of plastic lace and I think I will use it as wallpaper for that shabby chic look!

Joy Division/New Order

Tonight will be a special night for us...My eldest daughter Lesley-Ann and I will go to The Heague to see Peter Hook perform.31 years after the end of Joy Division he will be playing with his band and we will all get to enjoy his remarkable bass play and be able to feel the Joy Division feeling up close and personal.
Some people have their kids growing up with the Beatles or Stones...mine grew up with Joy Division and New Order...
We took them to see New Order perform a couple of years ago and Lesley-Ann thought this will be the perfect "full circle"seeing Peter Hook perform live and being able to enjoy all the Joy Division songs.

Henry feeding time....

And so...it was time to feed Henry my venus fly trap...
Henry is not much of a hunter himself I'm afraid and I thought I would help him by catching a fly.I believe it is bad karma to kill anything so I just caught a fly and released it near Henry to give it a chance to fly off....but he didn't.Henry's tentacles smelled too good for him to pass up and....he landed right right in the middle of one of henry's little "mouths" and SNAP!The mouth closed and now Henry is happy again for a very long time!Babette my youngest daughter witnessed the whole thing.She didn't believe me when I told her he would devour the fly and when his mouth snapped and caught the fly she cried out: Mom that is sooooo aweful!
OMG....bad karma for feeding the fly and scaring the crap out of my daughter....:-)

Remember this book?
I purchased it a while ago because I was completely intriqued by the cover and reading about the author mashing up the original story.
Seth Grahame-Smith is a brilliant author.And right now I am reading another one of his books called Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter.If you want to read what the story is about go HERE
(Spoiler allert!!!!!if you want to read the book yourself don't go there!spoiler allert!!!!!!!!!)

I have almost finished it in only two days(I am down with the flu and that is the only advantage to being sick,you get to read a lot of books and not feel guilty about doing absolutely nothing at all)
The story is brilliant.Seth Grahame-Smith makes us want to believe that one of the most famous of presidents of the United States was indeed a skilled vampire hunter.
He weaves facts and fiction brilliantly.It reads like a charm I haven't been able to leave the book for a minute.(This morning I had a doctor's appointment and went in with the book clutched under my arm....)
Now that being absolutely great news of course...it get's even better!
Tim Burton and Timor Bekmambetov are going to make it into a huge movie that will be in the cinema's 2012!
Burton and Bekmambetov being the directors already made my day but the news of my most favorite actor of all actors Rufus Sewell playing the bad vampire totally blew me away!
You all know how much I love vampires,and how much I love Rufus Sewell's work and now "The Roof" as a vampire*sigh* it just tops it all!
I can hardly wait for the movie....2012 seems sooooooo far away.They are filming in the French Quarter in New Orleans,the ultimate perfect stage for vampires...my gosh can this get any better????
Althoug I am not feeling to peachy right now because of the flu,my spirits are up way high because of all this.

Seth Graham-Smith is also going to be script writer for another vampire movie called Dark Shadows,(a re-make from the 60'ties-70'ties show) also by Tim Burton.Burton replaced his life long scriptwriter John August for Graham-Smith.I read that on Wiki

So that is it for now,I am back on the couch to finish the last few pages of the book (always a sad moment....)

What makes design design?I find myself wondering sometimes....
I ofcourse knew this little fellow for a long time already but never really thought about buying one....untill last week.
I was in a store trying on (and ended up buying)a cute polkadot dress.When hubby and I walked to the counter to pay for the dress....there he was....and it was pure love:)
I held him,almost begged the lady to sell him to me but helas...she wouldn't part with him...I left the store happy with my new dress but sad to see my monkey waving at me from the counter....
The monkey is a designer toy by the danish designer Kay Bojesen
The man was a genius.He made so many wonderful designs.They are timeless and will inspire and enchant people through the years over and over...that is design!
O yes...and now I want one of course:)

The King's Speech

Today I would like to share an amazing movie with you.
The movie is called The King's Speech and tells the story of King George VI of Britain.
The story is so touching,it will stay with you long after you have seen the last scenes and see the wonderful cast scrolling by.....
The sets are exquisit.I am in total awe about the wall in the room of the King's therapist.

The colors are so beautiful and the layered tattered beauty so fragile.
The Louis XV sofa is extraordinary,there are not many items in the room but the colors and texture of the wall and few strong pieces of furnature make a huge impression and give extra dept to the characters of The King and Lionel his speech therapist.You can read more about this amazing set HERE
I think Colin Firth will get many many awards for this role because he is absolutely brilliant.
It is definately a movie to watch on a large screen in a beautiful theatre.

Little worlds....

Although I perhaps have been blessed with skills when it comes to crafting,I don't have a green thumb...I sort of cuddle my plants to the point they just prefer to die instead of hanging in there a little while longer and giving me the pleasure of thinking I am good at keeping them..Every month there is another death to mourn but I never ever will surrender to the fact of lacking the gardening gene and will continue to try and keep plants no matter what .....
As a small child I wanted a venus fly trap...Just the thought of having a carnivor plant that would grow into this huge plant that would eat anything I would feed it had me fascinated from day one.I remember getting it,and sticking little things inside it's traps to see him close his fangs...Little did I know.It is so hard on the plant and costs him so much energy to close they usually die within days...
I think my illusion of growing plants the right way,was shattered back then and I have been in complete denial ever since...
So after giving it a lot of thought I purchased another Venus Fly Trap to try it again at age 44.I thought these baby's were not that high maintenance,but it turns out they are one of the most difficult plants to keep.....I will just have to look at this experiment as a challange and will not give up easily.

My other obession ... Moss terrariums.I love them,and they are supposed to be real easy to take care of.I had a few a while ago and yes...they started to become real smelly and ended up in my green container where they probably did a lot better there then in my home.Now I have tried it again.This time with different soil and with different active charcoal.Oh how I love my moss worlds....I sit infront of them and dream away...I am part of the little globe worlds and run barefooted through the moss tapestry's along with the tiny inhabitants like deers and rabbits...
Stay tuned...perhaps this time I will be able to keep everything alive and happy.
I will certainly give it my best!

As you all know by now,I can't seem to "stick"with just one kind of craft.
Although my knitting is going really well and I know in order to learn and progress I should stick to it and experiment with new patterns and yarns,I started drawing again:)But this time it is totally a new for me.I am never quite happy with my drawings.I wanted to learn how to draw a life like animal.Esspecially the eyes and fur...I started looking online and found an amazing artist called Karen Hull
Her artwork totally blew me away right from the start and when I visited her etsy shopmy heart just skipped a beat because she offers super tutorials on how to draw life like animals(and other subjects)yourself with a step by step explanation and awesome photos's!I immediately started searching for the right materials and purchased some beautiful new pencils by Faber-Castell yesterday and after a deep sigh....took the step and started drawing!!!!I am so happy with my result so far I want to shout it from the rooftop!
Now that I am hooked and want to know all about drawing life like portraits of animals and so on I have found some awesome artists I would like to share with you!

The second awesome artist is Gayle MasonI am in awe about her cats!!!

A little while ago I found the sweetest little etsy shop called Lucyslocket.
I immediately purchased one of her awesome kits.I got such a sweet reply,I immediately knew that Lucy was a true gem.I have purchased a lot of kits over the years,but her kit and tutorial is one of the best I have ever seen!
When you order one of her kits,you get the whole tutorial on a disk and you will find only the best materials inside:)The body of the squirrel is made from felted sweaters!!!Making this squirrel was pure joy from start to finish.He was supposed to be a really classic beautifully detailed pincushion but when I was working on him I couldn't get myself to stick a pin in the poor fellow so I made him into a little plushie.I sent a photo to Lucy and got such a warm en kind reply back filled with enthusiasm that the only thing left for me to say is.....Thank you so much Lucy!It has been a huge pleasure,I just purchased another kit from your shop to make a friend for this little one and I will surely be back for more!

First of all I would like to wish you all a very Happy New Year!

At the beginning of a new year,I always like to look forward to new movies and new tv series and as you all know I am a huge Dexter fan (please read THIS post:))and now am completely lost without new episodes to look forward to (because I have seen all episodes of all the seasons at least 3 times already)so I started to look for a new series to get wrapped up in.
And....I am so happy that this new show I am just so looking forward to,has one of my favorite actors in it: Rufus Sewell.He is an amazing actor,goodlooking,and seems like a fun person in real life too.Good sense of humor.
He played in so many movies and productions I love, like Tristan and Isolde,Pillars of the Earth,a Knights Tale..and The Eleventh Hour,a show I loved to watch and was unfortunately discontinued.Just read his bio and you will see how many different things he has brilliantly performed.
So now for the good news,Roof (sheepish smile...just found out his nickname) plays the role of Aurelio Zen in a new BBC one show!Based on the novels by the late Micheal Dibdin
The first one aired yesterday and $%##% I missed it,but hopefully will be able to find a way to see it somehow...the second one will air on BBC1 sunday jan 9th and the last one on sunday the 16th of januari.Yippie!

Needlefelting

I have been busy making small animals through needle felting.I have seen so many amazing creatures on the internet,I just had to give it a try.I have had some experience with needle felting in the past but that was a long time ago.I think it is amazing what you can do with a tiny amount of wool and a needle.Because of the color of the wool,you can really make life like animals and that is what I so love about this.Although my fingers are a bit sore(you easily hurt yourself along the way because the needles are really sharp!)I can not wait to make more little ones:)

Today,I bought an amazing book.It is called The arrival and it is the creation of Shaun Tan an unbelievably,super talented artist.Wow,I have been looking at this book the entire afternoon,I just made my third cup of coffee and I have just decided I am not going to leave this magical world any time soon so I think my husband's dinner tonight will just have to wait.....

The entire story is told without use of words,but with illustrations.Magnificent!

It is such an brilliantly illustrated fascinating book,it really takes your breath away.It tells the story of a man that leaves behind his family to emigrate to a new country and shows the feelings of excitement and despair and also the alienation from the homeland.The man encounters many strange looking creatures and fascinating new habbits.As a reader,or must I say observer,you are totally in this new environment with the main caracter and it actually feels like you are on a journey yourself!

A thousand friends in my purse......

I had a wish....and now I have one....a bebook neo (happy smiles)
It is an e-reader and you can put a 1000 books on it and still have room for more..
I am over the moon!
I have the alice in wonderland edition,it is the regular bebook neo that comes with an alice in wonderland sleeve and already had the alice in wonderland book on it.
Right now,I already have over 20 books on my bebook.And I am still putting new books on it every day.I know I will not be able to read all of them all at the same time,but just the thought of having so many within reach makes my heart skip a beat...
The e-reader will never replace my "real"books.I love to hold books and to sniff them and smell them but this is such a wonderful tool for bookworms like myself:)
I think they can coexist peacefully...my real books and my e-reader.One doesn't exclude the other.
I consider books to be my dearest of friends and love having them near me all the time,I always carry them in my purse just to have them close and now....well lets just say I am on my way to carrying a thousand friends in my purse:)

Sunday evening the 7th of November we drove to Rotterdam Airport to meet our sweet boy Felix and take him home...
Although the arrival time was 22.00,we left home at 20.00 because Pim said I was driving him bunkers..(guilty..but I was just sooooo nervous and excited to finally get my dog!)
When the plane landed,I almost lost it for a minute.Knowing he was so close made me all teary eyed and I had to really pinch myself for a moment
And then finally the doors opened and Anja from Galgo Support helped us get the benches to a quiet spot so we could finally meet our boy.
Awwwww he looked around so quietly and finally stepped out of the bench and greeted everyone there wagging his tail..(what is left of it,as you know some awful person cut of a large piece of his tail)
I can not describe what went through my heart,mind and soul all at the same time.I was just soooooo overwhelmed by it all.
When we took him for a little walk before going home he took his first pee and I was so surprised to see him lift his leg!I am used to female dogs,Felix is my first male:)
Felix slept like a baby the entire way home.We arrived at 00.30 and took our dachsen and him for a walk first before entering the house.Brechtje did bark a lot at him at first but it is all starting to "grow on her"now and today after only 3 days they are sharing a pillow and sleeping together.
I am soooooo happy he is here and grateful everything is going so well.I am sure there are still things ahead of us I haven't anticipated but I am confident with a lot of love and patience we will be able to work through things should they occur.

After a long absense in blogland,I will now tell you about a very special dog named Felix♥
As you all probably know,there is a lot of cruelty to animals going on in this world.
I can not get my head around the fact that people are capable of doing these things.
Years ago I learned about the aweful things that happen to greyhounds/galgo's all over the world.Ex-racing dogs,dogs who are not able to hunt anymore,I will not go into all the stories what happens to them but trust me...it is horrible.
I started donating money to rescue groups who do everything they can to help these amazing animals.I had to do something to ease my mind,heart and soul.
I always thought to myself...if only I could rescue just one...help one ...but I had two dogs already at the time and worked long days and just didn't see how.But they were always in my mind,the galgo's in Spain,their stories always brought me to tears.
Our beloved Saar died a couple of years ago(german sheppard age 11)and I said to myself,no more dogs.We still have Brechtje (dachsen age 12)and hope she lives to be a 100 but after she is gone we will probably go traveling,or at least start making plans to do things and it will be easier with no dogs around.I had convinced myself it would be the way to go for me......
But I always looked at the websites of the dogs in need of a good home.
One day I saw Felix on galgo support holland a small awesome rescue organisation here in Holland with a huge heart.These people are amazing and dedicate all their time and energy in saving these amazing dogs!
Felix's story was a sad one,his tail has been cut by some nutcase and it looked like he has been treated very very badly.What totally blew me away was his love for people!
How can an animal that has been through what he has been through still have trust in the good of people I thought.He was still wagging what was left of his tail whenever he saw people.I was amazed and in complete awe....I started following Felix to see if he would find a new home.After a long time it said he had been adopted on the site of galgo support.Of course I was happy but I also felt sad!"How can I feel sad?"I thought.I then knew,I would have wanted to give him a home myself and now it was too late.We went to France and the first thing I did when we got home was look on the site to see if there were any photo's of him in his new home to put my mind to rest and start to let go.BUT.....it said on the site that he was still up for adoption!!!!!!!!!!!!!That is when all my fuses just popped!I had to adopt him but first I had to get Pim and the girls to want him as badly as I wanted him!!!It didn''t take long to convince them:)and on Sept 23 I officially adopted Felix after a lovely visit of Anja and Janus from GAlgo Support and their wonderful dog Ray.They had to see if we would be able to give Felix a loving home and to make sure Brechtje would be ok to the fact of having a new big brother!
Next thing to worry about was getting him out of Spain and into Holland!
There were not many vollunteers to acompany him on his flight home.....
To make a long story short...it took some time but if everything goes well Felix will arrive sunday novermber 7th!!!!!!I can not wait to hold him in my arms:)
Anja,the gardian angel of galgo dogs will fly to Sevilla and get Felix and Juno(another galgo that has been adopted)and will fly him home to me!!!!to us I should say.Pim and the girls are soooooo excited too!
So there you have it.....a special story and an even more special dog!I will keep you posted of course and will post as many photo's I can on my blog when he is here!

Holiday in France part 2

Day5We drove to Perpignan.A large city we didn't really enjoy much.So we drove on to the beach and visited Collioure a beautiful village by the sea!!!
Day 6 We drove all the way up to Andorra a taxfree state right in the middle of the pyrenees mountains!after a great visit I got sick in the car from the altitude so we took a little break on day 7 and I finished reading Dan Brown's Lost Symbol and started reading Angelology by Danielle Trussoni and couldn't stop reading so I finished the book in three days!It is AWESOME!
Day 8 We searched for a well and found it in the woods.It is a pure sulfur well that is really smelly(rotten eggs)but very much worth the visit!
Day 9/day 10 We left our hotel and first visited our beloved Pezenas before driving all the way up to the French Alpes!We had a terrible night in a hotel in Romance (don't let the name fool you,the place was aweful!)
Day11 After a long drive and like I said a terrible night along the way we reached our second Hotel called Esprit Montagne and THAT was HEAVEN!The hotel,the food,the people...AWESOME!
Day12We did something so exciting...we drove through Switzerland to Chamonix and went to visit Mont Blanc!!!We made it up to 3842m!that is 12602ft!We went up the Aiguille du Midi by cable car and all I can say is WOW.....I am still in complete awe about the experience!The altitude is so high you can get very dizzy and Pim felt a bit sick but it is soooooo worth it!
Day13 We visited Yvoire a medieval village at the Geneva lake!It is so beautiful there.I spend a lot of time searching for pebbles of course:)
Day 14 Home!I am so happy to be home again safe and sound.Seeing my daughters and my little doggie:)))We had an amazing time with beautiful historic villages and places, beautiful people,sun,heath,cold,lakes,forrests,mountains,great foods and drinks,I think everything a person can wish for!

Holiday in France part 1

We are home safe and sound:)we had such a wonderful time I will try and give you a little impression.
Day 1 we arrived at our bed and breakfast and we were welcomed by Marie-Christine and Patrick Barry and....by little Picasso!
We slept in a 2000 year old house,an amazing experience!I would love to go back some day and stay a bit longer because the Barry family is so kind and their home so beautiful!
Day 2 We travelled all the way to the south of France to the Hotel where we stayed for a week Marion and Roderique and their two children made us right at home in their hotel!
We visited Aix le terme that day and had a rest from our long drive!
Day 3 We started early and visited a prehistoric cave called Grottes de Niaux It was awesome!Going deep into the cave with our lights and looking at the drawings made 14.000BC!
We also visited Foix and its beautiful castle ruin.
Also that day we climbed all the way up a very steap hill to visit Montsegur an impressive Cathar ruin with a very sad history.Many people died there and I thought you could actually feel it.
Day4 We left early to visit my beloved Rennes le Chateau.Oh sigh...just thinking about it makes my heart skip a beat.We walked into the little church and there was a groupn of people and the guide turned out to be a famour writer/researcer who wrote books about Rennes and its mysteries and....he was dutch!We could join the group!His name is Jaap Rameijer.He gave us so many information and insights into Rennes...it was awesome!Also that day we vistited another impressive Cathar ruin called Peyrepertuse!It was also very very high on a hill and kind of scary at times to climb but very much worth the climb because the ruin is so beautiful and so big!
On our way back to the hotel we stopped in Maudy famous for it's wine and of course purchased a bottle of wine for Pim.

In a couple of days we will be driving to the South of France again.First we thought we would spend our holidays in Sweden,then plans changed again and we thought Norway,and then hubby said: Let's just go back to Rennes-le-Chateau..I almost went through the roof!I so loved visiting that magical place.When we drove up there two years ago,I was a bit skeptic about the whole thing.You hear so many stories about the place having a special"fibe".Like Stonehenge.(when I visited Stonehenge I was also skeptic,sort of like:Just a bunch of very large rocks,but the place is truly magical and I will never forget the experience!)Driving up to Rennes-le-Chateau,you are very likely to miss the exit.You don't see huge signs and really have to search for the little sign that will lead you up a beautiful mountain.When you reach the little chapel you are already enchanted.That place is magical!!I LOVE it there and you can actually feel that it is definately a very very special place.The story of Rennes-le-Chateau is one of mystery,buried treasures,art,templars,it is amazing!
There are many websites dedicated to Rennes,here is one to begin with!
I am preparing for our trip,reading books on Cathars (another huge favorite subject of mine to visit their ruins,and read about their way of life)and to get into concpiricy modus I am reading Dan Brown's Lost Symbol...yummy!

Happy Birthday to you Oh great one!I LOVE LOVE LOVE the Wizard of OZ!Another thing my family from Canada and I have in common!As we speak I am reading The Wicked Years books by Gregory Maguire My cousin Joshua bought me the first book Wicked the life and times of the Wicked Witch of the West and it is AWESOME!I have a few more pages to go and then I will start reading the second book in the series called Son of a Witch (LOL)after that I hope to get my hands on the third book called A lion among Men about the cowardly lion...OMG so much to look forward to reading:)Gregory Maguire has so many other books too.Hope to read them all soon!(Little note here...These are books for adults...really not for small children!)Wicked is so popular it is also a huge Broadway show!

In case you are wondering where I have been hiding all this time...
We had a wonderful time with my canadian cousin Thea and her son Joshua.They came over for my sister Patty's wedding to the love of her life Paul.We had so much fun visting Amsterdam,Den Haag,Utrecht,bike rides,shopping,movies,it was such a sad moment to say goodbye at the airport.I wish it could have gone on for ever.
Thea is a very talented artist.Please take a look at her work
One time we were having coffee together in Amsterdam,I asked her what it feels like when she paints and she immediately answered:Heaven.
That really made me ponder.For me working on anything feels like:Yikes!I am always afraid I will not be good at something.Always insecure about everything I make.So that answer really made me think about it.When they left,I felt sad and the first thing I did,even without thinking,I took out my brushes and watercolours.
It is strange but the work I have done these last couple of days has been one of the best so far.And it does feel like a meditation.It keeps my mind from wandering of.Thank you Thea for giving me Inspiration!And thank you both for a wonderful wonderful time!

Do you recognize this problem?I seem make socks dissappear while doing the laundry....I always end up with huge amounts of very lonely socks...I have seriously thought about conspiracy theories...what if the sock manifacturers put some strange solution into one sock so it desolves in the washing machine and you end up buying new ones all the time...
Well you have to make something good from a bad situation they say, so I have found another re-duce,re-use,re-cycle project to give all the lonely socks in our home a new purpose!

I saw this GREAT idea in Marie Clair Idees,bracelets made from a jeans hem!How totally awesome is that!Pim always wears jeans so I have lots and lots to re-use.I love the idea of wearing one of his old jeans around my wrist:)I cut the hem ,sewed on a cute button and made a little crochet chain to close it.Then I crochet a flower for adornment eh voila!

Although it is June and supposed to be warm and comfy the weather here in Holland is not really that good today.This morning I found a wonderful pattern for a chilly day on etsy by Natalya.She was on the front page of etsy with her coffee cozy and I purchased the pattern in a flash started knitting and voilá!
I have never succeeded in knitting a cable and feel so proud I pulled it off!The grey one however I knitted the cable the wrong way.Pattern is super but I just did it the wrong way.I knitted the brown one later and think I got the hang of it...

Our youngest daughter brought me this beautiful buddha from her trip to Laos and Cambodia.Now she is leaving again in a few days.As a nanny..She is going to travel far far away with a lovely family with two little boys.my goodness I am just so proud of her!
And of my eldest daughter too of course!Both girls are doing great.I have a lot to be grateful for.

Hubby and I just came home from a lovely couple of days together for our 23rd anniversary.Before we left,my mom asked me to come over because she had a present for me...She had taken a bus at 9.00 in the morning to get me this beautiful present,an Alice in Wonderland pop-up book I had been eyeing for a long time!
Hubby also surprised me with two super sweet adorable childrens'books!
And we also bought a book about growing vegetables in a small garden,I purchased it for Hubby and he also purchased the same book for me too!That is what happens after being married for 23 years:)You learn to read eachothers minds often:)

It is starting to all come together.The stones are turning into a story.I think this will be so much fun for kids to play with.I am looking for a way to put a protective layer on the watercolour background so kids can move the stones around without damaging the colours.I think I have found a way to tell a story....

Lately I have become intriqued by the art of papercutting.I have found a great site named Scherenschnitte and found some awesome templates there to start my journey.It is really hard,I will have to practise a lot to get it right.It is not something you can do and let your mind wander off like with crochet or knitting.The blades are too sharp to let your gard down,so it is important to stay focused.I also do a bit of water colouring.With aquarelle it is also not possible to let your focus slip because the water will be all over the place and the colors will blend together.So it is a great practise to relax but to remain focused as well.Happy thursday!

I have no idea what this plant is called in english,in dutch she is called vrouwenmantel.I must admit I didn't plant her for her little yellow flowers,although sweet,I prefer pinks or whites or purple in my garden.This is the exeption to the rule.I love this plants leaves.Especially the way drops will lay perfectly still on the leaves in the morning or after a rainy day.....

Yes...Nanny pumpernickel also has a dark side:)...:-) but this one is called Dexter!
I have watched (read:devoured)all 4 seasons now and can not wait for season 5 to begin!When my eldest daughter brought me the first season on dvd I thought it wasn't for me but now...I am so totally hooked!.I think it also has to do with the actor who plays Dexter (Micheal C Hall) who makes Dexter ..well Dexter! If you know what I mean.I have to admit I have seen most episodes twice already of all 4 seasons..and I am now looking for the book Darkly Dreaming Dexter by Jeff Lindsay..it has been translated in dutch already but I think I prefer to read it in english.For those of you that are a bit squamish....perhaps Dexter is not for you,but if you are looking for dark humor,great story lines and awesome acting....Dexter is definately your guy and will soon be your favorite serial killer!
Yes...you read it right...he is a serial killer...but in a kind of Robin Hood way!LOL
One review that sort of sums it up for me:

Sculpting in porcelain

I have embarked on a new adventure ....again.Years ago I purchased the wonderful books by famous dutch doll artist Marlaine Verhelst,and they have always been on my mind but I just didn't have the courage to start making a doll directly in porcelain clay.Yesterday morning I got up early and drove to a special ceramics centre and bought the french porcelain clay from the Limoges.The guy at the store looked at me and asked: So...you never ever did something like this before and you are sure you want to do it in Porcelain?Yes! I replied bravely but doubts started to sink in....
I started sculpting and have been sculpting all day.The process is awesome but scary.It is like walking on eggshells.So fragile,and if I finish this doll succesfully after ten days of drying it has to be in a special heating oven and loads of things could go wrong there.Cracks,or the whole thing falling apart.....
You have to make everything hollow,which calls for special skills ( I obviously still have to learn them)But....I am enjoying the new process and love how the doll looks and....would definately be sad if he/she comes out of the oven in pieces

I have been in love with these doll shoes from the first time I saw them.They were very hard to find at first and on top of that....very costly...For both pairs I could have easily have bought myself a nice pair of shoes!But sigh...I just love them so much and couldn't resist.

Although it is still cold,you can just feel nature is about to explode.I always love this time of year,seeing all the little snowdrops peeking out with their tiny heads:)I finished knitting the bunny for the sweet lady in England and he is already well on his way to her.A cute little detail,I was sneezing and coughing the entire time I was knitting him.I have an allergie for cats(a real disaster because I LOVE cats!)and it turned out to be the angora yarn I used for the tummy and the tiny tail.But it hasn't kept me from making him from head to toe.I sent a photo of him to his future new mommy and got the most amazing answer back,that he had brought tears to her eyes.THAT is what it is all about and that is why I love making and creating!

Our youngest daughter Babette left on Monday to travel through Laos and Cambodia.She travels with a group but is all by herself.She is 18 and ready to meet the world.I am super proud of her for doing this.I myself wouldn't have been able to do that at such a young age.I was always afraid of new things.So I am thinking I must have done something right not to give that fear to her and her sister.I am grateful for that.(keep your eye on the dougnut.....)But that doesn't change the fact that I miss her.Lesley-Ann isn't home a lot either so now we have two rooms that are quiet.Very quiet...It also gives me time to think about things and to get used to this new phase in my life.But needless to say,I am looking forward to having them home and hearing about their lives and looking at them in awe....how fast time has gone by!
I am busy struggling with a new pattern.A lovely lady from England has asked me to make her a knitted bunny.I finally found the yarn I was looking for but I have been looking for white angora yarn for the tummy.Yesterday I found it so now I can knit her bunny.(I am going to keep this one myself.)

Do you recognize him,there in the corner?Mr handkerchief mouse?Yesterday I all of a sudden thought about him!.My girls used to ask me to make them a handkerchief mouse to take to school.I would spray a little of my perfume on them and one day the kindergarden teacher told me they would be "sniffing"them all the time(when they missed me)I figured he could also play his happy part in the Nanny Pumpernickel adventure!I really think they could also be a good help when a child is teething,they can chew on the knots!I was almost asleep when I thought of this and went downstairs and there I was in the middle of the night making handkerchief mice all over again!I really think Nanny Pumpernickel is tuning into a big "stew"of all my happy memories and beloved crafts:)
I also made a little linen bag to put the onesies in,they turned out great!

The postman always rings....too early!

So there I was....enjoying my early morning coffee.Sitting behind my laptop and thinking:" wow what great morning this is,so quiet,so sereen".That is when a car pulled up infront of my door.And there he was: the delivery guy.Not just "a delivery guy" but a very "hunky"delivery guy.That is when it hit me......I have no clothes on,just my shabby bathrobe.I have no make-up on (read: I have no eyebrows and no expression what so ever!)My hair looks like I have been in a fight with three pitbull terriers,and....my legs could really use a shave.Yes,those are the thoughts that went through my head while I was praying the guy was just on his way to my nextdoor neighbour who is about 90 years old and probably will not give a flying cahooty what she looks like in the morning!But he saw me sitting at the table and gave me a little wave(so there was no way I could pretend not to be home).....and with a huge white smile he walked to my door.....with a package. Kicking myself for ordering online all the time ,I slowly walked towards my front door and with a nonchalant smile I opened the door ,shook my hair and said"you are early"(my gosh how lame)He smiled and looked at his watch(you could actually hear him thinking out loud: get a life lady,it is almost 9.20!)I looked down(oooooo my gosh my nails...)and signed his papers and he handed me the package.(It wasn't even for me!)Have a great day!he said and he threw me another huge smile!
All I could say was : same to you....I closed the door and looked at myself in the mirror in the hall.Yes there it was, an "aha" moment.I saw a 43 year old looking back at me and laughing her (btw very flat and untrained)a*s off because I realized we will always remain "vain".and make a big fuss about the way we look.Yes even my 90 year old neighbour,who was probably putting on her lipstick the moment the car pulled up .......

I know I know,Christmas is already way behind us,but I just found this awesome tutorial for making little mushroom people by Cathy Gaubert.I just had to make one and it just wandered of and found his new home in the pretty little flowerbulbs:)I know red caps are not supposed to show up in this time of the year,but Hé.....who cares!LOL! It is always time for redcaps I think:)

Yesterday I was watching CNN revealed http://edition.cnn.com/CNNI/Programs/revealed/ and couldn't be happier to see John Malcovich in the spotlight.The interview is great,and what I loved most of all was seeing him wandering around a fashion show in Paris picking out fabrics and really enjoying himself.I didn't know he has his own line of clothing called Uncle Kimono (what a great name!)http://www.unclekimono.com/ It is amazing!And the thought of just ordering your very own John Malcovich teeee!!!It really made my day!
